Bulk carrier fined for oil pollution
The 'Lodestar' suffered oil leaks noted from the propeller and rudder system connection at Gebze on Jan 21, 2023. Local environmental protection office teams and duty patrol boats attended the incident scene. The samples were taken from the vessel and sea surface. The local environmental protection office carried out a further inspection for both pollution incidents together with sampling and video records. A pollution fine was imposed by the local municipality environmental prevention department due to the breach of local regulation as per MARPOL rules. The imposed fine in the amount of 670,000 US dollars. The vessels departure permission was cancelled by the Harbour Master until the payment of the fine together with cleaning expenses. The vessel remained stationary at Gebze as of Jan 23.
Engine damage under repair in Altinova
The 'Lodestar', which had suffered an engine failure off Novorossiysk on Aug 27, arrived in Altinova on Sep 3, 2021, and berthed in the Sener Shipyard on Sep 4 where a class surveyor, together with the owners' superintendent and shipyard duty engineer carried out a detailed damage survey. Subsequently, shore-based technical teams have commenced the permanent repairs. The owners provided a new set of spare parts. The ship remained stationary in the yard as of Oct 7.
Disabled bulk carrier towed to Yalova
The 'Lodestar' suffered an engine failure off Novorossiysk in position 44 10 05.0N, 037 07 00.0E, on Aug 27, 2021. After repair attempts by the crew failed, the tug 'Sea Lord' was taksed to tow the casualty to a yard in Yalova. On Sep 4 at 11 a.m. the ship moored in pos. 40° 41.86' N 029° 24.76' E off Yalova.
