Trawler suffered broken gear box

Mon Feb 24 12:35:51 CET 2020 Timsen

In the morning of Feb 23, 2020, the 'Calyposo - Z84' suffered a broken gear box 10,5 miles west of Trevose Head and went adrift in rough seas in in position 50 31 58.2 N, 005 21 23.4 W. At 7.50 a.m. the RNLI boat from Padstow was called out in support of the fishing vessel. It went on standby until a second Belgian fishing vessel, the 'Soetkin', started towing the stricken vessel to Milford Haven. Once the tow was established the lifeboat crew were stood down and returned to the station. The tow was later picked up by the tug 'Svitzer Caldey'. But while connecting the secondary line, both vessels collided due to a steering issues experienced by the tug. Consequently, the tug 'Angle ALB' took over the tow up to Pembroke dock. The tug 'Wilanne' then took over and placed the fishing vessel alongside berth 1. It had sustained damage to the centreline. On Feb 24 at 2.50 a.m. the 'Calypso' was berthed at the Milford Haven Ship Repairers North Yard for repairs of the damages. Fire aboard trawler off the Gironde

Fri Aug 10 21:49:35 CEST 2018 Timsen

The "Calypso" suffered a fire on Aug 9, 2018. The fire broke out in an electrical panel in the engine room, causing damage to the generator. After extinguishing it, the crew worked to restart the engine by connecting the assembly to the power unit used to supply the fishing gear. In fact, putting the nets back on board proved to be tricky in this configuration, but the crew was finally able to do it. At the request of the Atlantic Maritime Prefecture, an assessment and intervention team took off from La Rochelle in the afternoon of Aug 10 aboard the Guépard Yankee helicopter of the French Navy and was dropped off on the ship which was in the Gironde estuary, about 80 kilometers from the French coast, but already on the way back to Belgium to verify whether the emergency repairs carried out enabled the trawler to continue the return journey, or whether it was necessary as a precaution to divert to La Rochelle. The experts judged that it could continue on his own, being mornitored by the maritime authority. The ship had been fishing in the Bay of Biscay.
