Ship detained in port for thorough inspections

The inspection was scheduled to be carried out on June 29 by specialized personnel of the city of Comodoro Rivadavia, including the revision of navigation equipment, especially gyrocompasses and magnetic compasses, verifying their compensation and chart of diversions, radar, direction finder, echo sounder, signaling elements and fire-fighting devices. Also hydraulic tests must be performed and the rescue systems, boats, rafts, vests, pyrotechnic elements required by international regulations, nautical instruments and mooring devices checked. Due to the seriousness of the complaints and the negligent position of the owner of the ship, the Prefecture considered it necessary to carry out all these tests.

Shrimper returned to port due to stability issues

On June 24, 20127, the "Aldebarán" entered the port of Comodoro Rivadavia with serious problems of instability. The ship was banned from sailing, and the crew, including the captain, left. But far from stopping the vessel to avoid a tragedy, the owner Leandro Ciccolella armed a new crew and was enabled to sail. It was not the first time that the "Aldebaran" had a problem of instability but the owner of the boat, Leandro Ciccolella, did not seem to mind putting the lives of its crew at risk. The vessel, which was modified for shrimp fishing, was shortened and lost stability. When the ship entered Camarones on June 21, the owner was warned of this situation, but he did not warn the crew and set off on a new voyage in search of the prized shrimp. On that voyage the situation reached such an extreme that the crew and the captain feared for their lives. They started to throw fish over board to recover stability and get out of that situation. The captain decided to enter the port of Comodoro Rivadavia on June 24. Only the second engineer and the second officer were enrolled. Leandro Ciccolella managed to complete the staff and now will not only have the problems of instability but also with an inexperienced crew. The Prefecture of Comodoro Rivadavia carried out an inspection and cleared the ship to sail. The 52 year old ship is owned by the Allelocic SA, property of the family Ciccolella, which is also the owner of the ships "Mercea C" and "Nuevo Viento".
