German freighter Chopin allided with German Reefer Atlantic Mermaid in S-Petersburg

Thu Sep 13 16:29:13 CEST 2012 odinfm

German cargo vessel Chopin during docking in S-Petersburg Big Port contacted berthed German reefer Atlantic Mermaid and then allided with Berth 20 on Sep 13 2012. The pilot on board of Chopin blamed Master for neglecting his recommendations and miscalculating the force of the local strong current. Namely, Master rejected to hire the tug, and tried to berth the vessel by own means. The damages of both vessels and the berth are presently unknown. Maritime Bulletin http://www.odin.tc

Medevac off Thurso

Wed Aug 22 10:26:36 CEST 2012 Timsen

The Thurso Lifeboat was tasked to carry out a medevac from the "ATlantic Mermaid" on Aug 16, 2012, after a crewman took ill during a transatlantic journey. The medevac request was received from Port Services who were concerned for the welfare of the crewman but his condition was not urgent enough for him to be airlifted and at that time the vessel was still in the Atlantic Ocean. The Taylors RNLI lifeboat launched 36 hours later in flat sea conditions just after midnight on Aug 18 with a doctor on board and the crew rendezvoused with the cargo vessel on the outskirts of Thurso Bay. The cargo vessel was able to lower the casualty onto the lifeboat using a basket stretcher where the crew were able to take him safely ashore where an ambulance was waiting to transport him to hospital. No further details were available on the crewman’s condition. Report with video: http://rnli.org/NewsCentre/Pages/Thurso-tasked-with-a-medevac.aspx Photo Caption: This picture shows the basket stretcher being lowered into action.
