Danny Rose allowed to leave Brisbane

Fri Aug 02 11:17:04 CEST 2013 Timsen

The "Danny Rose" which was believed to be responsible for a 1.4 kilometre oil slick in Brisbane’s port left the port again on Aug 1 around noon, bound for Townsville, with the permission of authorities. The owners of Danny Rose guaranteed that funds have been set aside to cover the costs associated with the oil spill, if it is found to be responsible. The ship was carrying cargo which is urgently needed by customers. The ship is believed to have spilt up to 10 tonnes of heavy oil in the Port of Brisbane early on July 29. The government imposed a detention order on July 30 to prevent it leaving while investigations continued. The ban was lifted in the afternoon of Aug 1. Oil samples and CCTV footage were to be used for possible prosecution. Operations in the Port of Brisbane have returned to normal while the clean-up operation was expected to continue for several days. So far five oil-slicked birds have been found.
