Juliana Canal blocked by disabled barge
On Dec 15, 2017, the "Dythar", 1036 ts (EU-No.: 02301605), loaded with 1000 tons gravel and bound from Liege to Nijkerk, drifted perpendicular to the fairway of the Juliana Canal in Limburg near Stevensweert. She had suffered rudder failure before and drifted aground on both canal sides. Ship traffic had to be stopped on the canal. The ship suffered a leak in the foreship and water ingress. The fire rescue attended with the "Rotterdam 17" (MMSI: 244740635), carrying dewatering pumps. The crew of two was taken off. After the dredger ship "Estuarium" (MMSI: 244700170) lightered part of the cargo, the barge could be refloated and towed away around 5 p.m. by the tug "Jill-F" (MMSI: 244690969).
