Trawler suffered water ingress

The 'EXectuiber' started listing to starboard side in the port of Saint John's on Dec 9, 2021. It would likely have sunk had the vessel not listed towards the dock on the south side of the harbour. The Coast Guard’s environmental response team was on scene along with workers who were frantically trying to pump out the hold which had filled with water due to an apparent leak. The Coast Guard has since placed booms around the ship to contain any spillage. The vessel continued to bob and weave against the dock in rough water with hurricane-force winds in the forecast for tonight. The vessel could finally be stabilized and kept from sinking. No fuel escaped into the water. The biggest challenge for the Environmental Response Section of the Canadian Coast Guard besides a winter storm involved the gear needed to drain the water from the ship. They needed to navigate the suction hose around all the equipment and fishing gear on the vessel so they could reach the water. Its crew and members of the Canadian Coast Guard were working to pump water from the vessel. The Canadian Coast Guard?s environmental response team set up a pollution containment boom.
