Grounding on the Rhine
In the early morning of July 19, 2019, the "Forens II", 3273 ts (IMO-No.: 9385312), being loaded with 2.400 tons gas oil, while sailing upstream, ran agorund on the Rhine near St. Goar. The ship came perpendicular to the fairway after a bottom touch at Oberwesel. The river authority in Wesel activated shipping restrictions as the stern of the ship was 20 meters insde the fairway. Several attempts to refloat the ship failed. in the run of Jule 19 it was to be lightered and then pulled off. According to the police the ship had taken on too much cargo for the actual water depth on the Rhine. The tanker berthed in Mainz at 6.15 p.m. after it was successfully refloated.
