Tanker boarded by eight pirates
The "G. Dona I" was boarded by eight armed pirates in a skiff in position 006 01 06 N, 001 16 18 E, at Lome Anchorage on May 12, 2019, at 1 a.m. The Togolese Navy operations room observed the tanker's erratic movements but was unable to contact the crew, so they deployed a naval team to investigate. The Navy team boarded the tanker and arrested the suspected pirates, among them six Nigerian and two Togolese citizens, who were handed over to the Maritime Gendarmerie for further investigations. The vessel was then escorted into a safe area off the port of Lome and moored in pos. 06° 6.58' N 001° 16.22' E.
