83 people rescued in two missions
In the morning of Jan 29, several precarious boats attempted to cross the English Channel to Great Britain. The CROSS Gris-Nez identified wo boats in difficulty off Gravelines. The BSAM 'Garonne' managed to rescue 54 people. One of the castaways, victim of an illness, was taken care of by the crew of the' Garonne' and then by the SAMU 62 upon the arrival at the port of Calais in the middle of the day. The VCSM 'Oyapock' of the maritime gendarmerie was engaged to rescue 29 people. After being taken care of on board, all the castaways were dropped off at the port of Calais, where they were taken care of by the border police and the departmental fire and rescue service. The maritime prefect of the Channel and the North Sea warns anyone who plans to cross the Channel about the risks involved.
166 migrants rescued within a few hours
In the night of 16 and the morning of Dec 17, the CROSS Gris-Nez identified several boats in difficulty. The BSAM 'Garonne' picked up 50 people and dropped them off at the port of Calais. The customs launch VGC 'Nordet' rescued 45 boat people off Calais and dropped them off at the port. The BSAD 'Argonaute' rescued 31 castaways off Calais and dropped them off at the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer. The lifeboat 'SNS 077 Notre-Dame-du-Risban' from the SNSM station in Calais assisted a distressed boat of Oye-Plage and rescued 40 shipwrecked people, who were dropped off at the port of Calais. All the shipwrecked people were taken care of by the border police and the departmental fire and rescue service.
Patrol boat assisted grounded Route du Rhum yacht
The BSAM 'Garonne' was tasked to assist after a skipper of the Route du Rhum, Antoine Magré, ran aground with the yacht 'Palanad 3' (MMSI: MMSI:228000010) near the Île-de-Batz (Finistère), in the night of Nov 9. He was rescued by the SNSM and the firefighters. At 2.15 p.m., 138 solo skippers had set off for the 12th edition of La Route du rhum, destination Guadeloupe. Only a few hours after the start, the Class 40 E-Leclerc Ville-la-Grand, ran aground in the north of the island. Antoine Magré, aged 25, was first picked up by the SNSM around 4:20 a.m., then taken care of by the firefighters around 5 a.m., and transported to the Morlaix hospital center. The SNSM launches refloated the boat which arrived at the port of Roscoff shortly before 6:30 a.m.
