Engine breakdown off Mumbai
The 'Gas Yodla' suffered an engine breakdown and went adrift in position 17 56 36N, 70 22 30E, about 20 nautical miles from the D1 oil field off Mumbai on July 23, 2021, at 6.35 p.m. The vessel was on its way from Mongla to Fujairah with 17 crew members on board, including eight Indians and nine Ukrainians. After the first information was reported by Offshore Defence Advisory Group, ONGC diverted its Offshore Supply Vessel (OSV) ‘Sagar Pride’ to the scene, and ODAG mobilized its Vessel ‘P R Nayak’ to support the tanker which could be kept away from ONGC’s operational area. ONGC also withdrew one of its multi supply vessels (MSV), the ‘Seamec-3’ and the tug ‘Saroja Blessing’ from assigned duties and diverted them towards the drifting vessel. The tug ‘Water Lilly’ from DG Shipping also joined the ONGC’s vessels around 4 p.m. Offshore tugs were called to assist, and the vessel was taken in tow to Mumbai. A patrol boat of the Indian Coast Guard was escorting the convoy.
