Fishermen towed abandoned cargo ship to shore

Mon Jan 28 10:53:02 CET 2013 Timsen

Fishermen from Hoang Hoa who were fishing in the waters of Quang Binh province in central Vietnam were very surprised to see the "Hai Dong 27" drifting at sea with no one on board on Jan 25, 2013. After two days, a dozen of fishing ships towed the cargo ship to the shore of the Hoang Truong commune, Hoang Hoa District. The f/v "TH 90 425" was one of the first who discovered the cargo ship at about 1.30 p.m. at 18.07 N, 107.07 E in the waters of the Quang Binh province. The ship was nearly submerged. The fishermen called but no one answered. The captain sent some fishermenwho boarded the ship but did not find anybody. The floor and the deck were cluttered with supplies and books. Soon after, they called other ships to come to tow the ship to their hometown commune of Hoang Truong in Thanh Hoa province. In the journey of more than 140 nautical miles, each seven fishing boats took turns to tow the ship once because it was very heavy. They moved only about 5 nautical miles per hour. After receiving reports from the fishermen, the local government directed the local police and border guard forces to verify the record of this ship and to protect it. In night of January 20, the "Hai Dong 27" carrying more than 3,000 tons of cargo from Cu Lao Cham to Hai Phong, had its engine room flooded in the sea of Quang Binh province. The 13 crew members were rescued by the "Phu Son 26". Report with photos: http://english.vietnamnet.vn/fms/society/58108/fishermen-discover-unmanned-cargo-ship-floating-on-the-sea.html
