Container ship evacuated after gas leak
The emergency service in Korsakov, Sakhalin, was alerted in the morning of Feb 25, 20223, after a methane gas leakage occurred on board of the 'Fesco Tatarstan', which was berthed in the port since Feb 22. The methane was leaking from a faulty valve of a 20-ton flexitank, stored on the upper deck and surrounded by empty containers. The wind was blowing in sea direction, so there iwas s no imminent danger to local residents.The 17 crew members were evacuated from board. As it was deemed too risky yet to try to offload the flexitank, the port authority was waiting for the arrival of a specialized team and equipment.
