Bulkcarrier assisted distressed yacht

Wed Aug 26 12:26:56 CEST 2015 Timsen

On Aug 24, 2015, at 5.40 pm. the NSRI Durban duty crew was activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) following a request for assistance from the "Kishore" reporting to have diverted from their voyage to investigate after witnessing red distress flares. Upon arrival at the source of the red distress flares they found a couple, and their dog, on the yacht "See Brok", without motor or electrical power and with damage to their Main Sails, and requiring assistance. The "Kishore, which was enroute from Hazira to Saldanha, remained on-site pending Sea Rescue’s arrival. The NSRI Durban launched the lifeboat "Eikos Rescuer II", and on arrival on the scene at approximately 10.45 p.m., a tow-line was rigged and the yacht was towed towards Durban’s Port in rough sea conditions with a 15 to 20 knot North Easterly wind and 3 meter swell. Both on board the yacht and their dog were reported to be safe. The "Kishore" was released to continue on her voyage. On Aug 25 at 10.30 a.m. with an estimated arrival time at the Port of Durban at midday, the crew aboard the "See Brok" reported their yacht to be taking water and sinking. The sea rescue craft attempted to get pumps onto the yacht but shortly thereafter the couple and their dog abandoned their yacht and were rescued aboard the sea rescue craft. The couple and their dog, a Schnauzer, were all wearing life-jackets and were not injured. The yacht sunk. The couple and their dog were brought safely into Port and the South African Maritime Safety Authority and police started investigating the incident. The couple, Mr and Mrs Lubbe, originally from Cape Town, stated that their yacht got into difficulty shortly after launching from Zululand Yacht Club, Richards Bay, where they are residents on their yacht, on Aug 23. They drifted without motor or electrical power, under a make-shift sail before setting off red distress flares on Aug 24 around 4 p.m. to attract the attention of the "Kishore" that was passing nearby at the time. Detained bulker released

Fri Nov 22 18:03:25 CET 2013 Timsen

The "Kishore" which was detained by Singapore authorities, was released on Nov 22 and was to sail on Nov 23 following settlement of a dispute. The bulk carrier was detained at Singapore on Nov 17 following an alleged dispute with a fuel supplier while it was on way to China from Brazil.

Bulker arrested due to bunker dispute

Thu Nov 21 20:27:54 CET 2013 Timsen

The "Kishore" was arrested in Singapore early on Nov 17, 2013. A Mumbai-based official with Essar Shipping confirmed the arrest of the vessel, which was carrying iron ore from Brazil to China. It was expected that the vessel would be released on Nov 21. It is understood that the ship's arrest was due to a bunker dispute, but this could not be confirmed. The dry bulk carrier built in 2012, was arrested by solicitor Oon & Bazul LLP.
