Ship sunk, crew saved
The 12 Indian crew members of the 'Kanchan' were rescued by the m/v 'Hermeez' off Umargam, Gujarat, on July 22. The 'Kanchan', which was on its way to Mangalore, has sunk seven nautical miles west of Umargam in Gujarat after its engine failure. A distress call was issued late on July 21. Since no Coast Guard vessel could reach the position immediately, the Indian authorities diverted the 'Hermeez'. She was next headed to Mumbai with the castaways on board.
Ship adrift off Indian coast
The 'Kanchan' suffered an engine failure and a blackout in the morning of July 21, 2021, in the Arabian sea halfway between the Gulf of Khambhat and Mumbai. The ship was adrift about six nautical miles off the Indian coast. It had left the port of Hazira on Jul 20.
Lost anchor and cable
On July 27, 2015, the "Kanchan" reported a lost anchor and cable in the Gulf of Khambhat off Bhavnagar. The loss occurred north of Mumbai in the Arabian sea, in position 21 42N 072 21E.
