The "Ocean State" (165 gt, built 2003) suffered mechanical problems on May 23, 2019, and was taken out of serice o May 23, 2019. The ferry was sailing on the Providence to Newport route, and operator RIDOT has told the public to refrain from booking tickets. Mon Jun 19 12:18:43 CEST 2017 Timsen

The "Ocean State" was withdrawn from the Providence-Newport service until June 20, 2017, and was being repaired in New York after having been damaged late on June 17. The ferry was about to pass a buoy in Narragansett Bay, when it turned abruptly to avoid another boat. Slight contact was made with the buoy. No one on board was injured. Damage to the "Ocean State" was minor, and SeaStreak said the ferry should return to service on June 21. Passengers with existing reservations have been notified.

Ferry got stuck in Jamaica Bay

Thu May 29 23:07:44 CEST 2014 Timsen

25 Rockaway business owners and residents had to be rescued on May 28, 2014, when the "Ocean State" which had been taking them on a special cruise around Jamaica Bay ran aground not far from Cross Bay Boulevard Bridge. The vessel became lodged about 11:30 a.m. in mud in low water that according to the captain wasn't on any nautical chart. The "Ocean State" was headed east toward Kennedy Airport when it got stuck. Passengers were given hot chocolate, coffee and potato chips while they waited. With the tide going out and the water level dropping, the crew had the passengers move to the front of the ferry in an unsuccessful effort to free it from the mud. About 12:15 p.m. the U.S. Coast Guard was notified and an FDNY vessel arrived to remove the passengers and four crew members. They were taken at about 1:15 p.m.to the Beach 116th Street dock in Rockaway Park, where they made their way to their cars. No one was injured and the vessel appeared to be undamaged. Regular ferry service was uninterrupted. Seastreak officials were waiting to see if high tide would free the "Ocean State" from the mud.
