Repair at Sedef Shipyard
After the cargo discharge operation from the 'Gallipoli Seaways' was carried out by the ferry terminal team, the ferry has been shifted from the terminal to the Sedef Shipyard to carry out permanent repairs on March 1. The repair works have been commenced by the shipyard team. Upon completion of permanent repairs, a fire-fighting system function test will carry out under the supervision of a surveyor panel.
Ferry arrived at Tuzla
The 'Gallipoli Seaways' arrived at Tuzla on Feb 13 at 9.10 p.m. After the first part of the damage survey was carried out, a single voyage permission for the vessel was issued by the Harbour Master from Akcansa to the Pendik ferry terminal. During the Canakkale Strait passage, a Coastal Safety tug provided escort service for the vessel and strait traffic safety.
Fire on ferry off Bozcaada
In the afternoon of Feb 11, 2021, a fire broke out on the upper deck of the 'Gallipoli Seaways' off Bozcaada, while transiting the Dardanelles enroute from Tuzla to Trieste in pos. 39 40 00N, 025 47 30E. The ship had on board 22 crew members, two passengers and 220 vehicles. The lifeboat 'Kıyı Emniyeti' and the tug 'Kurtarma 10' and six Fast Rescue Boats were dispatched to the scene by the General Directorate of Coastal Safety to assist. The ship turned towards Bozcaada. The crew first responded with their own means to tackle the fire that broke out 34 miles after departing from the Dardanelles toeards the Aegean Sea. The ferry was diverted to Akçansa Port because of the rough weather which hampered fire fighting. After the arrival in port at 5.30 p.m. the fire was tackled by shore based fire fighters and the 'Kurtarma 10'. The tug and lifeboats escorted the ferry while approaching the Akçansa Port. Besides the fire fighting, cooling and ventilation work were continued on the ship as of Feb 12 when still some units were on fire. A damage assessmentw as expected to be carried out on the ship on Feb 12.
