Technical snag during trials

Sat Nov 07 18:29:44 CET 2020 Timsen

The 'Voyage Symphony' which was due to run between Ghogha and Hazira, was hit a technical snag during the trial run on Nov 6, 2020.A system malfunctioned occurred soon after the ship left from Ghogha for Hazira. The problem was to be resolved ahead of the official launch on Nov 8.

Repairs of overheating comleted

Thu Dec 13 12:39:11 CET 2018 Timsen

Repairs to the propeller shaft, ball bearings and oil seals of the "Voyage Symphony", which were damaged when its engine got overheated causing the engine to be shut down, were completed in Gogha, Bhavnagar, and subseuquent trials were successful. An official of the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) was present during the sea trials. The ferry was to resume operations in Gulf of Khambhat on Dec 14. Actually the ship was anchored off Gogha in pos. 21° 40.74' N 072° 17.66' E. An investigation had revealed that a piece of plastic had been sucked into a pipe causing the engines to overheat.

Piece fo plastic disabled ferry

Tue Nov 27 13:03:31 CET 2018 Timsen

A piece of plastic, which got stuck in one of the pipes that supply seawater for cooling vital parts of the “Voyage Symphony”, had caused the brand new vessel to stall mid-sea with over 400 passengers in Gujarat’s Gulf of Khambhat on Nov 21. A piece of plastic used to wrap a mixture of areca nut, betel leaf, slaked lime and tobacco got sucked into the pipe that supplies water at a high pressure. The diameter of the pipe had already shrunk due to mud depositions. Water could not reach the shaft and the ball-bearings located towards the rear-end of the vessel. Engines were under pressure to rotate the shaft and so the alarms went on. In absence of water, the shaft and the bearings got damaged and all the oil seals got burnt. It was beyond anybody’s control. On Nov 27, the damaged shaftwas removed from the vessel, which was berthed at Ghogha terminal at Bhavnagar. Apart from replacing the damaged parts of the vessel, the authorities were also changing the position of the lifting the sea water for the shaft to avoid that the issue might get repeated. The ferry was currently undergoing repair work at Bhavnagar, and will become operational only by Dec 7. The Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) also inspected the vessel and has the analysis that was conducted to ascertain the cause for heating up of the vessel’s engines. Senior people from China inspected the vessel too. Before the operations begin again, the IRS will be inspecting the vessel and will also be conducting a trial run.
