Cargo ship slammed into river bank

Mon Feb 15 19:18:56 CET 2016 Timsen

On Sep 14, 2016, at 6.30 a.m. LT the "Xetha Bhum" ran into the riverbank of the Chao Praya River on the Bhumibol Bridge in Bangkok. The ship suffered significant damage and was breached below the waterline when it suddenly got out of control, veered to starboard and slammed several meters deep into the promenade over its whole length while leaving the port. According to the police, the vessel lost control because of strong water turbulences, caused by violent river currents. The vessel was towed to safe depth by two Coastguard tugs and returned to Bangkok port for a full inspection before being allowed to resume its voyage to Singapore.
