The number of vessels monitored via AIS transiting through the Strait of Hormuz has, according to VesselTracker data, come to a virtual standstill since the weekend. While an average of around 148 vessels per day were monitored via AIS transiting through the key strait at the entrance to the Mideast Gulf since the start of this year, this has since fallen to only 32 ships on March 1 and only 10 monitored doing so on March 2.

However – with the first casualty of war often being the truth - some signs of AIS disguising have also been monitored in the Mideast Gulf since Friday and some vessels may possibly have transited via the Strait without maintaining full AIS transmission throughout their journey, as below:
