The Director-General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), Mr Aminu Dikko has urged the Federal Government to dredge the Warri/Escravos water channels. Dikko made the plea on Thursday in Warri after he led a team from the ICRC on an inspection tour of facilities at the concessioned terminals in Warri Port. He said that the development would help to rejuvenate business activities at the port. The terminals inspected included the Julius Berger, Associated Maritime Services Ltd (AMS) and the Integrated Logistics Services (INTELS) terminals. http://www.hellenicshippingnews.com/icrc-advocates-dredging-of-warri-port/

Insecurity Threatens Nigerias Delta Ports

Fri Nov 11 07:50:28 CET 2011 arnekiel

Insecurity, community restiveness, improper land speculation and encroachment into port land, siltation and non-proper maintenance of water channels , are part of the problems hampering the smooth operation at most of the Nigerian seaports, AllAfrica reports. Foreign ships operating around the Delta ports, are said to have withdrawn due to insecurity. Most of the infrastructure at the ports are decaying because of under utilization following the non-patronage of the ports by foreign vessels. Link roads within the ports are described as death traps , with several potholes obstructing free movement of trucks within the port. More at http://allafrica.com/stories/201111100571.html
