Oligarch yacht fled to Dubai

Wed Jun 01 09:55:29 CEST 2022 Timsen

The 'A' of the Russian oligarch Andrei Melnitschenko has been discovered in the port of Ra's al-Chaima, north of Dubai, after closing down its transmitters in March. In the UAE no sanctions against profiteers of the Russian invasion in the Ukraine have been imposed. The ship flew an Emirati flag on May 31. The yacht’s last recorded position on March 10 put it off the Maldives in the Indian Ocean, just over 1,860 miles from Ras al-Khaimah. Satellite images showed the vessel in Ras al-Khaimah’s creek from March 17.

Bilionaire sued paint company for more than 120 million Dollar

Fri Oct 04 11:32:16 CEST 2013 Timsen

The Russian owner of the "A" sued a paint company for more than $120 million. The "A", being docked in Auckland's Westhaven Marina was embroiled in a $100 million-plus legal stoush over a botched paint job. The Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko has sued Dulux after lines and sags appeared in the paint job of the "A". The chemical tycoon filed his claim in a New Jersey court. He was arguing that the paint company's blunder forced him to redecorate the yacht. Asia Pacific Superyachts NZ has been carrying out maintenance and refit work on the vessel since Sep 22, 2013, but it was unclear if that work was related to the paint job. Melnichenko's claim against Akzo Nobel, which owns Dulux, included $29 million to repair the paint and a monthly payment of $4.8 million to cover 18 months of hirage of a replacement boat while his was out of action. In addition to attorneys' fees and costs, these damages represent over US $ 100 million in ascertainable losses on the part of the plaintiff. Problems began to appear when the yacht was almost finished being painted. The paint appeared to be 'running' and the coats began separating from each other. The vessel was repainted at Akzo Nobel's own cost, but the second coat was unsatisfactory and lawyers said a new coat would now take 18 months.
