Cruise ships laid up in Visby
On MAy 3, 2020, the 'Aidacara' docked at Visby's cruise wharf for lay up due to the corona pandemic. Another ship will be coming this week and more may be on the way. After sending out inquiries to a number of Swedish ports, including Gothenburg, Visby was chosen. On May 8, the 'Aidaaura' wull follow. The ships were being manned with a minimum crew of 100 people. None of them will be allowed to go ashore more than move within the port's ISPS area to handle waste management and deliveries. No major crew changes will take place in Visby exceeding some individual cases.
Aidaaura timewise held in Haugesund for corona virus suspicion
The corona virus was suspected on board the 'AIDAaura' which berthed in Haugesund on March 2, 2020. There were about 1,200 passengers on board. The "AIDAaura" started from Hamburg on March 1 on a two-week trip to Norway and arrived in Haugesund in the morning. It remained in port since due to the suspicion that two passengers from Germany could be infected with the corona virus. This was confirmed by a doctor on site. An initial examination of the two had initially shown no evidence of symptoms of the disease. Both had had contact with a third person before departure, with whom the infection has now been confirmed. This person was therefore not on board the ship. The two passengers should not be allowed to leave their cabin until the final test result is availabl in the early afternoon. After test results showed that the passengers were not infected with coronavirus, the ship was released and sailed on March 3 at 4.20 p.m.
Crew member arrested for non payments of alimonys
On Aug 22, 2019, a 53-year-old crew member of the "AIDAAura" was arrested by the police in Rostock after the arrival of the cruise ship in the port. He neglected his maintenance obligation. The man was led away by the officials. The public prosecutor's office in Hanover had searched the man for the violation of his alimonys. He still had to pay 11-124 Euros. In addition to these payments, he was fined € 3,600. However, since he could not pay these, he was given a replacement sentence of 120 days in jail.Upload News
