AUREL

Mon Apr 17 20:48:33 CEST 2017 Timsen

On Apr 15, 2017, the "Aurel" encountered problems when entering the locks of the Kiel Canal in Kiel-Holtenau. Upon entering at 3.30 p.m. westbound the skipper reported unspecified trouble with the bow and requested to be allowed to return into the canal. She already had turned around when the lock master ordered the boat to proceed. Then the order was changed and the yacht asked to return into the canal, so she berthed again in the lock. Once the other leisure boats had left towards the Baltic Sea, the lock was closed again. When the "Aurel" was about to leave, she reported that a rope had now fouled the propeller. The lock master requested other boats to assist via VHF. Another boat headed towards the "Aurel" which meanwhile had regained manoeverability and was no longer in need of assistance. She left the lock and berthed in the canal. Photo: http://www.esys.org/news/SOS-Bilder-2017/04-16-Aurel_(Foto%20Lutz%20Schleich).jpg
