Pirate attack defended
Nine pirates in a skiff approached and fired upon the "Axel Spirit" on Apr 19. 2017, at 08.45 a.m. in position 03 25N 005 46E, 60 miles SSW of Brass. After the alarm was raised, fire pumps were started and non-essential crew retreated to the citadel. The ship increased speed and conducted evasive maneuvers. While the master communicated with the escort vessel, the skiff was seen aborting and moving away. The vessel was en route from Abidjan, to Nigeria. Oon Apr 21 tanker was docked at the Brass Oil Terminal.
