Misplaced space heater caused fire
A misplaced space heater was blamed for stacked paper bags catching fire on the "Blue Pacific" in Unalaska on June 12, according to Deputy Police Chief Michael Holman of the Unalaska Department of Public Safety. No injuries were reported in the fire on the freezer longliner. The vessel's crew was already at work fighting the blaze when local firefighters arrived on the scene. They were soon joined by crewmembers from the state trooper patrol vessel Stimson, who have special training in fighting vessel fires. The fire was confined to a storage area holding the paper bags, used for packing frozen fish, and was extinguished in about two hours. The "Blue Pacific" was tied up at the Coastal Transportation Dock.
Fire in cargo hold
Fire broke out in hold of fishing vessel Blue Pacific in the morning June 12 13 while it was tied up at the Coastal Transportation dock in Unalaska, Alaska, reported Unalaska Community Broadcasting. Fire started at around 08:30 LT and was extinguished some two hours later, by both firefighters and crew. The source of the blaze was a air heater in the vessel’s hold, installed near pallets of a flammable packing material fiber. Vessel suffered some damage. No injures and no spill reported.
