Allision in Durban

Tue May 02 09:50:57 CEST 2017 Timsen

On Apr 30, 2017, at 7.30 p.m. the "Julian" ran into the quayside at the Durban Bulk Connections terminal on the Bluff, previously known as the coal terminal. The ship overshot Berth 4 as it was arriving to unload its cargo, before hitting the ship loader at Berth 2, at about 7 p.m. The coal loader at the Bluff suffered significant damage when being struck by the vessel during the docking manoever. The Bidvest company which owns the loader, confirmed the 600 ton, 30 metre-high machine was a write-off, but there may be some salvageable parts. The bulkcarrier had sailed from Xiamen on Apr 8.
