Fregate suffered significant damage in grounding at Piräus

On Apr 17, 2017, at 10 a.m. the "Brandenburg" allided with a jetty in the port of Piräus. The damaged fregate was escorted by the tug "Christos XVII“ to a Naval Yard near Salamis in the afternoon. The accident had happened when leaving port. The ship hit an underwater barrier at the port entrance and suffered considerable damage to both propellers and the rudder. After the grounding the ship apprached an anchorage south of Piräus with slow speed where a first damage survey took place with divers of the crew. In the yard experts of the Greek navy were to undertake thorough damage investigations. The "Brandenburg“ had planned to return end of August.

Fire on fregate

On Oct 9, 2016, the "Brandenburg" entered the naval port of Kiel after a fire broke out in the starboard engine in the evening of Oct 8 upon entering the Great Belt. The crew had soon been able to tackle the fire, no injuries reported, but the engine was damaged. After surveys the ship may leave Kiel again on Oct 11 and head towards Neustadt.

The "Brandenburg" suffered an engine room fire in the naval port of Kiel in the night of Sep 1. At 3 a.m. the crew remarked the fire and raised alarm at once. Fire fighting troops kept the fire from spreading further. The civil fire rescue of Kiel jointly with fire fighting experts, on the whole 40 men, tackled the fire using rebreathers. No injuries reported, the damage has yet to be assessed.
