Houthis damaged Chinese tanker despite statement they would not do so

On March 23, from 2:50 to 4:30 a.m. (Sanaa time) the Iranian-backed Houthis launched four anti-ship ballistic missiles (ASBM) into the Red Sea in the vicinity of the 'Huang Pu'. At 4:25 p.m. (Sanaa time), a fifth ballistic missile was detected as fired toward the tanker. The ship issued a distress call but did not request assistance. It had suffered minimal damage, and a fire on board was extinguished within 30 minutes. No casualties were reported, and the vessel resumed its voyage. The Houthis attacked the ship despite previously stating they would not attack Chinese vessels. Between 6:50 and 9:50 a.m. (Sanaa time), U.S. forces, including the USS 'Carney (DDG 64)', engaged six Houthi unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) over the southern Red Sea. Five crashed into the Red Sea, and one flew inland into Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen.

Fire on Chinese tanker after Houthi attack

The Chinese-owned 'Huang Pu', en route from Ust-Luga, was attacked 23 nautical miles west of the Yemeni port of Mokha by ballistic missiles fired by Houthi rebels on March 23, 2024. The tanker issued a distress call but did not request assistance. “No casualties were reported, and the vessel resumed its course. A fire had broken out on board the ship but was extinguished within 30 minutes. The vessel was now sailing out of the Red Sea into the Gulf of Aden heading for its next port of call New Mangalore.

Tanker to be auctioned

Brightoil's tankers were headning for an auction block on order of the Hongkong Court. The Singaoren counterparts prepared the auction of the fleet of the troubled fuel trader including the "Brightoil Galaxy", "Brightoil League" and "Brightoil Lucky" which was anchored in Hong Kong waters.
