Coast Guard Cutter repatriated 19 migrants

The 'Richard Etheridge' repatriated 19 migrants to Cuba on June 17, 2024, following multiple interdictions of maritime migration attempts in support of Operation Vigilant Sentry. The first case was reported by the Eighth Coast Guard District, where watchstanders were contacted by a merchant vessel which rescued three Cuban nationals in the Gulf of Mexico. The migrants were transferred onto the Coast Guard Cutter 'Oak'. The second case occurred after a good Samaritan notified Coast Guard Sector Key West watchstanders of a migrant vessel approximately 12 miles south of Boot Key, Florida. Coast Guard Station Marathon boat crews arrived on scene and safely embarked one Cuban national, who was transferred onto the 'Oak' too. The third case was initiated by a Coast Guard Air Station Miami HC-144 aircrew who notified Coast Guard Sector Miami watchstanders of a disabled center console with six persons onboard waving their arms in distress, approximately 25 miles east of Jensen Beach, Florida. Coast Guard Station Fort Pierce launched a boat crew to rescue the migrants who claimed they departed Cuba six days prior and ran out of fuel. The migrants were transferred to the Coast Guard Cutter 'William Sparling'. The fourth case occurred after Coast Guard Sector Key West watchstanders received a report of a migrant vessel four miles south of Marathon, Florida. 305 migrants repatriated

U.S. Coast Guard cutters returned a combined 305 migrants to the Bahamas and Haiti on June 9 and 10, 2024, following multiple interdictions of unlawful maritime migration attempts over the last week in support of Operation Vigilant Sentry. The 'Raymond Evans' and 'Richard Etheridge 'transferred 109 people to the Royal Bahamas Defence Force on June 9, following an interdiction near Anguilla Cay, Bahamas. U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations (CBP-AMO) aircrews notified Coast Guard Sector Key West watchstanders of a migrant venture near Anguilla Cay and crews diverted to interdict them. The Coast Guard Cutter 'Thetis' repatriated 196 people to Haiti, Monday, following two migrant voyage interdictions on June 5 and June 6. A CBP-AMO aircrew notified Coast Guard District Seven watchstanders on June 5 of a migrant venture north of Cap-Haitien, Haiti. Another CBP-AMO aircrew notified Coast Guard District Seven watchstanders on June 6 of a migrant venture north of Île de la Tortue, Haiti. Crews diverted to interdict both vessels. Once aboard the Coast Guard cutters, migrants are processed to determine their identity and are provided food, water, shelter, and basic medical attention before repatriation to their country of origin or return to the country from which they departed. The 'Richard Etheridge' repatriated 80 Cubans to Cuba on Dec 31 following interdictions off Florida’s coast. A good Samaritan notified Sector Key West watchstanders of a migrant vessel on Dec 27 at approximately 12:30 a.m., about 14 miles south of Key Largo. The Coast Guard Cutter 'Tahoma' alerted Sector Key West watchstanders of a migrant chug the same day, at approximately 2 p.m., about 38 miles west of Cay Sal, Bahamas. A Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations law enforcement boat crew notified Sector Key West watchstanders of a migrant vessel on Dec 28 at approximately 10 a.m., about 4 miles south of Boot Key. A Coast Guard Station Marathon law enforcement boat crew notified Sector Key West watchstanders of a migrant chug the same day, at approximately 4 p.m., about 5 miles south of Boot Key. A good Samaritan notified Sector Key West watchstanders of a migrant vessel the same day, at approximately 5 p.m., about 2 miles south of Boot Key.
