Coast Guard searching for 39 missing boat people

38 migrants were missing after boat capsizes off Florida on Jan 25, 2022. An SAR operation was launched after a survivor was found. The US Coast Guard has found one body after good Samaritan alerted the Coast Guard early on Jan 25 following the rescue of a man clinging to the mostly submerged hull of the boat after it hit bad weather about 45 miles east of the town of Fort Pierce He told that he had left the Bahamas’ Bimini islands with 39 other people in the night of Jan 22, and that they had not been wearing lifejackets. The survivor was taken to a hospital for treatment of dehydration and sun exposure. Coast Guard Cutters, among them the CG 'Ibis', other vessels and aircrafts have been deployed to search an area stretching from Bimini to Fort Pierce to find the missing. They crisscrossed an area spanning more than 7,500 nautical miles on Jan 26. On scene were wind speeds of 23 milesper hour and 9-foot seas. Involved in the search were: - Coast Guard Cutter Ibis; - Coast Guard Cutter Etheridge; - Coast Guard Cutter Skipjack; - Coast Guard Station Fort Pierce 45-foot response boat; - Coast Guard Air Station Miami HC-144 Ocean Sentry; - Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater HC-60 Jayhawk; - Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater C-130 Hercules; - Navy 2nd Fleet; - Coast Guard Auxiliary Tiger.
