U.S. Coast Guard restricts traffic in Ohio River due to sunken vessel
The U.S. Coast Guard said on Friday a towing vessel with a maximum potential of 1,048 gallons of diesel aboard had sunk in the Ohio River and it issued a waterway restriction between mile marker 979 and mile marker 981. The towing vessel, Charley Wallace, was fully submerged and there were reports of a sheen on the water, the agency said in a statement. Tug sank on Ohio River
The US Coast Guard responded to athe sinking of the "Charley Wallace" at mile marker 980 on the Ohio River near Cairo, Illinois, on Apr 13, 2018. The Coast Guard Sector Ohio Valley watchstanders received a report at 3:50 p.m. about the uninspected tug being fully submerged inside the channel on the Ohio River. The Coast Guard has issued a waterway restriction between mile marker 979 and mile marker 981 on the Ohio River. The "Charley Wallace" had a maximum potential of 1,048 gallons of diesel aboard. There were reports of sheen in the water. Involved in the response was the Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Paducah. The cause of the incident was under investigation.
