Robbers tied up duty able seaman and stole ship's stores

Thu Aug 19 10:15:00 CEST 2021 Timsen

The duty crewman of the 'Seaspan New York' noticed from a distance three perpetrators at the forward part of ship conducting a roving inspection on Aug 4, 2021, at 1.40 p.m. The ship was mooed in the south harbour anchorage of Manila in position 14 19 48N, 120 33 00E. The perpetrators were trying to steal ship's property from the forecastle. Additionally, there were two other perpetrators alongside the ship waiting in a small boat. As the duty crewman approached them, one person armed with a knife tried to stab the man, who managed to avoid being stabbed. The other two perpetrators tied him with a rope on the forecastle deck. The perpetrators broke the padlock of the forecastle store and stole two portable welding machines with cables, 20 reefer cables, three bronze nozzles, and five hydrant caps. They fled over the ship's side by using a loose rope and escaped in the boat. The duty crewman managed to untie himself and reported the incident to the bridge. The general alarm was sounded and the crew mustered. A roving inspection was subsequently conducted with no further sightings of the perpetrators on board the ship. The incident was reported to the Manila port authorities.
