Fog spikes used to extinguish engine room fire

Mon Feb 15 12:55:44 CET 2016 Timsen

The Kent Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to an engine room fire on the "CWind Endurance" at Dover Western Docks on Feb 14, 2016, at 11. a.m. Fog spikes were used to punch small holes into the engine room compartment and high pressure hoses attached were then able to deliver a fine mist of water to rapidly reduce the temperature and extinguish the fire. Crews also used breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to put out the blaze. The fire rescue worked very closely with Dover docks, Port of Dover police and the owners of the vessel. The cause of the fire is not yet known and there have been no report of injuries. The vessel was believed to be badly damaged, and there was still work to be done to get rid of the badly damaged parts. Four crews of firefighters, including a technical rescue unit and the Environment Agency were on the scene until 3.30 p.m. Report with photo and video: http://www.kentonline.co.uk/dover/news/fire-at-western-docks-90961/
