Fuel spill during bunkering operation

Wed Aug 02 11:58:11 CEST 2023 Timsen

The Captain of the Port of Gibraltar called a halt to operations on Aug 1, 2023, after oil was spilled during a transfer a fuel from the 'Hercules 500' to the LPG tanker 'Gas Venus' (IMO: 9774197) at the southern end of the Western Anchorage in pos. 36° 07.44' N 005° 21.84' W at 8.30 a.m. The Port Authority implemented its contingency plan for fuel spills in conjunction with the Environmental Agency. Spanish authorities were notified of the accident. Gibraltar raised red flags on the beaches of Camp Bay and Little Bay in expectation that oil would reach the shore at those locations. Bathers, boaters, and fishermen through Gibraltar waters were urged to use caution. Fuel could reach the shores of Algeciras Bay.
