Fire on kuxury yacht off Agropoli
On the morning of Oct 9, 2025, a fire broke out in the engine room the 'Espadarte' about 17 nautical miles from Agropoli. The Naples Port Authority contacted the Salerno Fire Brigade operations room to request support. 16 people on board were rescued by the SAR boat 'CP 854'' and the Coast Guard. Two patrol boats were deployed to manage the emergency, supported by a private vessel diverted to the scene from the Naples operations center. All passengers and some of the crew were safely disembarked at the port of Agropoli, without suffering any injuries. Initial efforts to extinguish the fire were conducted by the yacht's crew, then supported by personnel from the patrol boats that arrived to the rescue. Firefighters from Salerno reached the vessel with a tug and brought the fire under control, after emergency procedures were implemented by those on board. The operations contained the fire to the engine room, preventing the flames from spreading to the rest of the vessel, which was towed to the commercial port of Salerno within approximately six hours. A thermal imaging camera was used to monitor the temperature. The response was concluded at 1:30 a.m. Thanks to the rapid deployment of rescue services and the crew's prompt response, a more serious outcome could be avoided. The 'Espadarte' remained stationary at the Tre Gennaio Jetty in Salerno as of Oct 14.
