Former Cabo Star arrived in Piraeus
On Feb 19, 2026, at noon, Seajets’ recent acquisition 'Cabo', the former 'Cabo Star',arrived at the port of Piraeus and berthed at Saint George (Molos DEH). The ship immediately went to the Peramatos shipyard where maintenance and adaptation work to Greek regulations were to be carried out. The vessel was purchased in January from the Canadian company Bridgemans Services Group, representing Seajets’ first step into the RoRo sector in Greece. The ship had departed from Caracas Bay in mid January and sailed from Curacao on Jan 31. Cabo Star replaced by Blue Wave Harmony
The Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago has chartered the ropax ferry 'Blue Wave Harmony' (9007283), which had served on the route Iskenderun-Haifa until November 2025, to replace the 'Cabo Star', when its lease has expired on Jan12, 2026, representing a significant upgrade, with four main engines to improve redundancy and reduce service disruptions, as well as heavier-duty loading ramps to accommodate bulk and specialised cargo. The ferry was expected to arrive in Trinidad around Jan 18, subject to weather conditions and the completion of regulatory and operational clearances. According to the National Infrastructure Development Company Limited (NIDCO), the acquisition followed a managed procurement process aimed at improving operational compatibility at the ports in Port of Spain and Scarborough, while increasing cargo capacity, passenger comfort, safety and reliability. In the interim, the Trinidad and Tobago Inter-Island Transportation Company Limited has implemented contingency arrangements using existing vessels, including the 'A.P.T. James', 'T&T Spirit' and 'Galleons Passage' in order to ensure the continued movement of essential cargo between Trinidad and Tobago. The 'Blue Wave Harmony' is certified to transport dangerous and specialised cargo and will not require scheduled dry-docking in 2026, allowing for uninterrupted operations. The upgraded facilities were expected to create opportunities for local employment and service providers.
Ferry's lease end in January
The 'Cabo Star', which has been providing cargo transport services to TT’s inter-island seabridge since 2017, has been sold by Bridgemans Services Group and will not be available for a renewal of contract when it ends on Jan 12, 2026. The government had no obligation to renew any lease. The THA was aware the lease of the 'Cabo Star' was expiring, but had no idea it was sold. Discussions on the expiring lease were held between the THA and central government during its dry-docking between July 12 and Aug 3. Office of the Procurement Regulator (OPR) rules must be followed in the acquisition of a new ferry. The THA was expecting to receive the plan of action from the ministry by the end of December.
