Collision with barge off Houston

The Coast Guard on Aug 16, 2011, was responding to a collision in the Houston Ship Channel. Watchstanders at Sector Houston-Galveston received a report at 8:13 a.m., that the "Naticina" and the barge "MMI 3024", which had been pushed the by towing vessel "Alliance", had collided near Pelican Cut in the ship channel. The barge was carrying a cargo of 20,000 barrels of xylene. No pollution or injuries were reported from either vessel. After the collision, the "Naticina" was instructed to transit to the Galveston Fairway Anchorage, where it safely anchored. The "Naticina" reported a breach in a starboard ballast tank. Inspectors, Port State Control examiners and investigating officers from Marine Safety Unit Texas City were dispatched to conduct damage surveys for the barge and the "Naticina".
