Gutted trawler sank
On Feb 28 in the afternoon, the owner of the "Ar Raok II" decided in accordance with its insurer, to tow the hull to a safe place. Due to the deterioration of weather conditions on area and the degraded state of the hull the port of Palais at Belle-Ile-en-Mer was chosen. By mid-afternoon, two pilot boats from Lorient proceeded to release the trawl which had been snagged before an attempt to take the ship in tow was started. But at 5:11 p.m. the wreck sank six miles off the SE tip of Skeul on a water depth of 50 meters. Fishing vessel gutted by fire
On Feb 28, 2015, at 6.40 a.m. the CROSS Etel was alerted by the crew of four that the "Ar Raok II" was on fire off the Belle-Ile-en-Mer about 15 kilometers off the SE-tip of Skeul. At 6.50 a.m. the crew abandoned ship and was taken aboard the f/v "Joker”" from Croisic. The anti submarine frigate "La Motte Picquet" which was at anchor in Palais assisted and dispatched its Lynx-helicopter. Also the SNSM-boat from Croisic, the “Pierre Robert Graham - SNS 095" and from Belle-Ile-en-Mer, the “Belle Isle - SNS 096” were alerted and on scene at 8.30 a.m. The vessel was completely alight. At 9.08 the fire was reported to be under control, and the lifeboats continued cooling the hull while the possibility of taking the gutted wreck in tow was evaluated.
