Collision off Le Havre

Fri Jul 15 21:58:17 CEST 2016 Timsen

On July 15, 2016, at 2.10 a.m. the "Gros Lolou CN.721860", 43,6 gt, was in collision with the "Waasmunster" which was anchored off Le Havre in the waiting zone n°3, having come from Mongstad. The tanker reported water Ingress at 3.50 a.m. Around 8:30, mine divers of the French Navy were airlifted aboard the "Waasmunster" and started an investigation of the ship's hull in which they found a hole sized 50x70 cm underneath the water line. Around 9:30 a.m. a magnetic sealing plate was placed onto the leak by divers and stopped the water ingress. The ship's owner and the captain, in consultation with the maritime prefecture of the Channel and the North Sea, decided to commence pumping operations. After nearly two hours of pumping, the ship lifted anchor and approached the port of Le Havre, which has made every effort to accommodate the ship. During these maneuvers, the ship was escorted by the tug "Abeille Liberté", the port tug "Gascogne" and a maritime surveillance as well as the "Pavois". The evaluation and intervention team and the team of divers from the mine hunter "Croix de Sud" of the French Navy remained aboard the "Waasmunster" About 10 nautical miles off the entrance of the port of Le Havre, the gas tanker stopped to allow divers to check the resilience of the closure plate. It was found out that the leak was perfectly sealed. Pumping operations have continued during the transit and reduced the water level inside the tanks. Around 6:15 p.m. the convoy was off the port of Le Havre, the Navy forces and the "Abeille Liberté" were released, and the "Waasmunster" docked at the Quay Sog at 7.30 p.m. The fishing vessel on the other side informed the CROSS Jobourg at 7 a.m. that it suffered a leak while seven miles off Port-en-Bessin. Immediately, the SNSM-lifeboat "Madonne des feux" from Port-en-Bessin was dispatched to the ship. The mine hunter "Croix de Sud" was also sent by the COM Cherbourg, to provide assistance to the "Gros Loulou".The pumping means of the SNSM boat allowed to control the water ingress of the fishing vessel which docked in Port-en-Bessin at 8:45 a.m. French reports with photos: https://www.premar-manche.gouv.fr/communiques-presse/suite-collision-entre-navire-peche-gazier-belge-zone-attente-havre.html https://www.premar-manche.gouv.fr/communiques-presse/collision-entre-navire-peche-gazier-belge-zone-attente-havre.html http://www.ouest-france.fr/normandie/le-havre-un-navire-de-peche-entre-en-collision-avec-un-gazier-4369171 http://www.lamanchelibre.fr/actualite-189756-calvados-un-chalutier-de-port-en-bessin-a-heurte-monstre-des-mers.html
