On Apr 4, 2014, at 5 p.m. the "Jean-Claude Coulon II" suffered a total engine failure off the coast of Brittany while sailing off Penmarc'h (Finistère). The trawler with a crew of 14 on board, drifted five kilometers off the shore. The SNSM boat from Guilvinec was able to tow the vessel a little off, while a tug was coming from Lorient and took the trawler in tow. Fisherman died off Shetlands

On Jan 8, 2012, one fihserman drowned after falling over board from the “Jean Claude Coulon II” 50 miles NW of the Shetland island Butt of Lewis. A Scottish coast guard helicopter from Stornoway started a search for the man. However, he could be recovered by the French trawler crew and taken to Stornoway where the man was pronounced dead.
