Ferry broke down off Festøya

Thu Jan 09 19:32:21 CET 2020 Timsen

An operator error caused a breakdown of the the 'Hardingen' on the Storfjord in the morning of Jan 9, 2020, at 6.40 a.m. The ferry was serving the Norled route Festøya-Solavågen and had just sailed from the Festøya ferry dock when it lost power and was drifting in the sea with passengers and cars on board. The main engine was stopped for about seven minutes. The anchor was prepared to be dropped and the passengers were informed. The monitoring system perceived that the oil pressure had become too low and therefore stopped the engine. Since the shipowner considered it not to be a technical fault, the ferry went straight back intoits schedule.

Ferry grounded off Skjersholman

Thu Jan 07 10:33:14 CET 2016 Timsen

On Jan 6, 2016, around 11 a.m. the Norwegian ferry "Hardingen" ran aground in Sunnhordland 100 meters off the Skjersholman ferry quay. On board were nine passengers and a crew of eight as well as two service personnel, a total of 19 people. The captain ran the ferry deliberately aground to avoid an allision with the quay when the ship was coming in with too much speed. A tug was called which managed to pull the ferry off at 5 p.m. with the rising tide. The passengers got sandwiches, coffee and juice in the meantime. A diver was sent down and found out that the rudder is damaged, but there seemed to be no damage to the hull. The trips to Stord were cancelled.
