Harengus left Puerto Madryn after five years

Mon Oct 18 12:07:00 CEST 2021 Timsen

In mid October the "Harengus", that was part of the collection of abandoned ships at the docks of Puerto Madryn, left the port forever after almost five years. On Dec 14, 2016, the vessel had entered the port for the last time and then lost its fishing permit. The ship remained in the hands of Pedro Baldino, who soon after sold the 1,400 tonnes of the hake quota to Giorno/Iberconsa and the fishing permit to Newsan, which 2020 received the new “Atlántico I” as a replacement. The “Harengus” was towed to the outer edge of the Rio de la Plata with a security crew on board. She was now to be dismantled in a port in India, which was cheaper for Baldino than scrapping it in Argentina. Vessel waiting for permission to start final voyage

Wed Sep 01 10:21:04 CEST 2021 Timsen

The 'Harengus' was awaiting authorization from the Prefecture to set sail in tow of the tug 'Remarsa I' for Montevideo, the stopover on its final trip to Turkey where it will be scrapped. She entered the Mar del Plata port in December 2016. The ship, still owned by Pedro Baldino, is moored in section 12. After several attempts to scrap it, frustrated departures to other shipyards and ports, and the arrest in 2019 by the Port Consortium itself, in recent months the new management was preparing it to leave the port. The authorization from the Argentine Naval Prefecture to leave the port was still awaited. She will not be able to do it just because she does not have her own propulsion, The plan was presented in the Prefecture in December 2020, and during this time the shipowner has been complying with all the demands thatwere requested. The rudder was welded, the entire hull was sealed and there must be a runner crew of five people: captain, engineer, auxiliary and two deckhands. The Prefecture also requested that it has an autonomous electrical system to generate the navigation lights and activate the bilge pump in case of an emergency. In parallel to the towing plan, the company had to present the documentation to support the export of the ship to Uruguay at Customs. Regarding the sailing plan, it was decided to cross the Río de la Plata in a voyage that will require two days. From Montevideo the ship will continue its journey to Turkey, where it will be scrapped. There are other ships in the same situation as the 'Harengus' that could follow the same track so that the docks get freed of floating junk.
