Repair commenced in Aberdeen

Wed Apr 15 12:59:46 CEST 2026 Timsen

On April 15 a specialist team was set to inspect the faulty bow doors on the 'Hjaltland' in Aberdeen, which had led to her delayed departure on April 10. The ferry had been scheduled to leave Lerwick at 5.30 p.m., but the mechanical issue meant she did not depart until after 11p.m. and did not arrive in Kirkwall until 9 a.m. It may not be possible to complete the repairs in one visit if, for example, new parts were required. The ferry operations would continue as normal even if the repairs took more than one attempt to complete.

The team had resolved the mechanical issue and allowed the vessel to depart. The 'Hjaltland' left Aberdeen as soon as passenger and cargo operations were complete.
