On Aug 27 2017, the crew of the "Hong-Tai 176" was evacuated as the ship had started sinking off Hong Kong in the tropical typhoon with the local name Pakhar which raged across the area. The ship issued a distress signal while it was heading 64 miles east of Hong Kong in the morningwith 11 crew members on board. The Government Flying Service (GFS) of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) sent a helicopterto rescue the distressed crew. When it arrived at the vessel, the foreship was already completely flooded. However, it was possible to rescue all 11 persons on board. The vessel sank shortly afterwards. The rescue operation was hampered by heavy winds, violent waves and poor visibility. Ten of the eleven rescued were unharmed while a single crew member suffered minor injuries.
