Collision in Taiwan Strait
The "Hu You 8" collided with the fishing vessel "Min Shi Yu 6867" in the afternoon of Nov 4, 2015, in position 24 35N 118 53E, 20 miles southeast of Quanzhou in the Taiwan Strait. The tanker which was loaded with 2976 tons of gasoline was breached at the bow and portside tank 5. It suffered water ingress and developped a list of 20 degrees. It could be stabilized by dispersing cargo and by ballasting, and started to move towards the Meizhou Bay, escorted by Coast Guard ships. The tanker was anchored in Meizhou Bay and entered Fengqiancun Port on Nov 6. The fishing vessel was also damaged in the bow area, but not so seriously, and was able to reach Shishi port under own power. One crew member on board of fishing vessel was injured and later hospitalized
