Container ship suffered stuck fuel pump
On May 6, 2021, at 3.50 p.m. the 'Challenger', while enroute from Corpus Christi to Tyne with 17 crew members on board, suffered a stuck fuel injection pump in position 54 29 33N, long 000 11 54.6W. The vessel stopped its engines to assess the problem. The engineer deemed repairs was not needed at this time. The 'Challenger' thereupon restarted the engines and proceeded to its destination. On May 7 at 6.40 p.m. she dropped anchor off Tynemouth in pos. 55° 2.56' N 001° 22.27' W.
Distress signal was false alarm
A distress signal issued by the "Industrial Challenger" enroute from Mumbai to Port Klang off Cochin, which was received in Lisbon turned out to have been a false alarm. The freighter crew was now investigating what happened. The emergency signal sent by the freighter, via satellite, was received on Aug 15, 2018, around noon by the MRCC in Lisbon. It led to a request for assistance to the Indian maritime authorities.
Ocean Atlas cleared to sail after charges were dropped
The "Ocean Atlas" has been cleared to sail in the next two days. The ship has been docked at Maracaibo since August 29. The U.S. State Department confirmed the charges for the captain and the 14 crew memberswere dropped after Venezuelan authorities detained the ship and its crew for alleged arms trafficking. The ship was expected to set sail on Sep 10 or 11.
