Disabled freighter threatened to run aground
In the morning of March 5, 2020, the 'Jian Gong 8', 2622 gt, was dragging anchor near the western coast of the Quanzhou Bay, Fujian, and drifted towards nearby reefs in the Taiwan Strait. As the main engine had broken down, the crew couldn’t start it in challenging weather conditions with rough seas and the ship rolling up to 15 degrees. As a salvage tug couldn’t approach the ship, it was decided to evacuate the10 crew members. At 5 p.m. all of them were evacuated. As of March 6, the ship was moored on Quanzhou Anchorage in pos. 24° 46.34' B 118° 47.28' E.
