Tanker received mayday call, following SAR operation successful

On Oct 6, 2014, at 5:35 p.m., the "JS Alular" transiting through the traffic separation zone of the Caskets, alerted the CROSS Jobourg following the mayday call of an unidentified ship. The distress message was indicating a position in the English coastal zone. The CROSS Joburg immediately contacted the Coastguard Maritime Rescue Center Solent which coordinated the following SAR operation. Furthermore, the CROSS Joburg also proposed the support of the EC 225 helicopter of the Navy based in Maupertus which, under the coordination of MRCC Solent joined the search area between at 9:15 p.m. The Maritime Coastguard Rescue Center (MRCC) Solent dispatched two helicopters of the English Coastguards, two lifeboats, the helicopter of the British frigate HMS "St Alban" and an EC 225 helicopter of the Navy based in Maupertus. The flights were suspended about 11 p.m. but the search continued overnight. On Oct 7 at 7:15 a.m., HMS "St. Alban" found the distressed vessel with one person on board 33 km west of the Isle of Portland.
