Ukrainian crew stranded without food in Varna, Bulgaria

Fri Mar 27 21:58:59 CET 2015 masforgo

The crew of a cargo ship who have been left unpaid and without food, water and power for month have been receiving essential help from Bulgarian Maritime administration, Red Cross and local business. The ASIAN DREAM (IMO 9486295) has been in Varna, Bulgaria for more then a month, when it was taken to a shipyard for repairs. These were completed, but not paid for. The owners are in financial difficulties and the ship is under arrest pending a court decision. As a result, the 14-strong Ukrainian crew have been unpaid for four months and left without food or water. For now and until the financial situation is resolved, the crew will have to rely on local support for their basic needs.
